NYC Real Property Assessment

This mapping site can tell you, among other things, the block and lot number for a house or co-op building.

The New York City Map Portal lets you type in an address to get links to information on block and lot numbers, school zones, community boards, census data and neighborhood-by-neighborhood complaints about problems like rats and noise.

The main Web site for city government provides access to sites of city agencies, and it has a list of all community boards and their sites.

The Automated City Register Information System, or Acris, contains all deeds filed with the city.

The site has a reverse directory function that allows you to search by address to find out who lives where.

The Department of Buildings site shows building permits (click on "jobs/filings" or "permits"), violations and other information.

The Department of Housing Preservation and Development site has a database that includes information on housing violations against a building.

On the site for the New York City Department of Education, click on the "Our Schools" button to find out what school a property is zoned for and to learn about other schools in the neighborhood. An independently run Web site, www.insideschools.org, also has information about each city school.

The New York City Police Department's site provides crime statistics for each precinct.
The New York State Sex Offender Registry has addresses and criminal histories for "high risk" sex offenders.

On the home page of the Finance Department Web site, click on "review account history" to reach the "property information system." Here you can retrieve information on property taxes for buildings or condos.
